Easter
Easter is a major event. It is a celebration of the Holy Week, commencing with the Procession of Silence on Palm Sunday through the streets of Puerto Alcúdia. On Maundy Thursday and Good Friday there are further processions with the four brotherhoods represented in Alcúdia being carried on floats. On Easter Sunday there is the procession of L’Encontre (aka Es Tres Botets - the three little jumps) which celebrates the meeting between Mary and the resurrected Christ. And then on the Tuesday there is a further celebration, this one at the Ermita de la Victòria, when there is a worship of the Virgin Mary and more eating.
April 23 - Sant Jordi - Alcúdia Book fair-come-fiesta.
Books are sold on the streets, men give women a rose and get a book in return.
June 29 - Sant Pere - Puerto Alcúdia.
In fact this is a week of celebrations with concerts, games and sports. On the 29th is the actual procession for the saint of sailors. From the Church of Mare de Déu del Carme i Sant Pere there is a parade with the statue of Sant Pere. The statue is then placed on a boat which sails around the bay of Alcúdia followed by a flotilla of decorated boats. The celebrations come to an end with a massive firework display.

Port d'Alcúdia dresses up to enjoy the week celebrations of the Festes de Sant Pere, The Patron Saint of fishermen. Everyday there are plenty of different activities: live concerts, contests, games for the kids, sport contests, and a lot more.
On June 29th there's a procession both on land and sea with the statue of the saint. The parade starts at the Església de la Mare de Déu del Carme i Sant Pere carrying along the statue through the streets of Port d'Alcúdia. The most touching moment is when the statue is put on board and sails round the Bay followed by hundreds of decorated boats. A great firework puts an end to these marvellous celebrations.

La Victòria
Just after the Festes de Sant Pere, which ends on June 29th, the next one starts on July 1th. We move from the sea to the mountain, specifically to the hermitage in La Victòria. The celebrations start with a fun run ascending to the hermitage. When the sun goes down the alcudiencs come to lay the tables where they are going to spend the evening and night eating, drinking and dancing. The local traditional groups Sarau Alcudienc and Tacàritx play their music and the alcudiencs dance Ball de bot, a typical dance. And those who don't dance prepare the ron cremat (flambéed rum).
On July 2nd at 8'30 a.m. firecrackers are released from the town hall and a parade begins with the Banda de Música. In the same morning there's a mass at the hermitage with a traditional tribute of bouquets of camomile. Slightly after this act once again music, races and lots of fun flood all over.

Sant Jaume, Patron Saint of Alcúdia
July 25th is Sant Jaume, the Patron Saint of Alcúdia, which is celebrated in style. Festivities start a week before with many live concerts, open-air dances, plays, exhibitions, bullfights and, obviously, religious celebrations.
The Triennal del Sant Crist takes place every third year, which is a mass and a deep-rooted procession. This procession dates back to1507. The tradition says that the Sant Crist (Christ saint) sweated blood and water ending a time of drought. The next Triennal will be in the year 2007.
In the night of Sant Jaume a firework display near the walls ends up a week of fun.

August: Sant Bartomeu, Vía Fora and Agost a la fresca
On August 24th, people thank Sant Bartomeu because the season fruits such as watermelons, peppers or melons are getting ripe. It's also a celebration day in Alcúdia, a place where people has always been very grateful to the soil. Fruits are emptied and different figures such as moons, cats, suns and escales de figueral are cut out and drawn in their skin, and a candle is put inside. This way fruits turned into llanternes (lanterns) and lighted up the balls de bot (Mallorcan folk dancing) that used to take place under the fig trees. This ancient celebration resulted in a parade through the streets of the old town.
For a long time this ancient tradition disappeared but a group of alcudiencs recovered it a few decades ago. Ever since kids have enjoyed their llanternes as their ancestors did in the past. The iconography has slightly changed though, there are still moons and escales de figueral but there are also many Simpsons and Disney figures and new technologies such as batteries and lighters help if there are wind gusts. However, the same songs are sung: "Es sereno ha mort un moix", "La lluna i la pruna" o "Ton pare no te nas" and kids sing them enthusiastically. Hundreds of kids get together and parade around illuminating the old town, starting at the La Placeta de les verdures and ending at the town hall with the keenly anticipated balloons and sweets release.
